BULK - The Series is an exciting, raw, sexy dramatic web series exploring the Bear Community in New York City.  The series follow Leo Durán as he reclaims his place in the NYC Bear scene after a devastating break-up.  Leo encounters old friends and the possibility of a new romance, but his ex seems determined to stop him from moving on.

From the creators:  As a proud member of the Bear Community, I have noticed media images of gay men who look like me are desexualized for comic relief. I am producing this web-series with a long time collaborator to celebrate how beautiful, passionate and authentic we are.

Shakespeare festival offers two popular works

The festival's 33rd season takes place July 6-31 in W&M's Phi Beta Kappa Hall. Tickets are now on sale.

Last presented at the festival 10 years ago, "The Comedy of Errors" tells of twin brothers and their twin servants, separated in infancy and now searching for each other. The comedy is full of farcical action, says Artistic Director Christopher Owens, with a "wonderfully constructed series of mistaken identities that has a pair of sisters romantically involved with alternating twin brothers."

Jack Young, former artistic director of the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and the Warehouse Theatre in Greenville, S.C., will direct this production in its original Roman setting. He has added a colorful twist that will liken the play to the musical, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

The twin brothers will be played by Kevin Hasser, who recently appeared in "All's Well That Ends Well" at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., and Nick Ciavarelli, last seen in "Much Ado About Nothing" at New York's Frog and Peach Theatre Company.

For the twin servants, Owens cast Aaron White, who played one of the title roles in the festival's 2007 production of "Romeo and Juliet," and Israel Guttierez, who performed in "To Whom It May Concern" at the ArcLight Theatre Off-Broadway.

"It was certainly a great casting challenge to find actors for these two sets of twins, particularly with casting in both D.C. and New York," says Owens. "I had pictures and vital statistics with me all the time and had to make an offer to Kevin and Nick that was contingent on both of them accepting. Besides being very strong actors, they were the physical match that was best."

Joining these two sets of twins are Broadway veteran John Michalski as the Duke and Tamara Johnson as the Abyss. Annie Rubino and Elizabeth Jernigan take on the roles of the lovelorn sisters.

"Hamlet" rates as Shakespeare's most mature play, written and produced in the early 1600s, says Owens. It was last presented at the festival 15 years ago,

Owens has trimmed the four-hour play to about two-and-a-half hours of playing time. In addition to his role in "The Comedy of Errors," White will play the title role in "Hamlet."

"After White accepted, I started working on the edit, looking to highlight those sections of the text that are about action and Hamlet's wicked sense of humor," says Owens. "This 'Hamlet' is not 'the melancholy Dane' as he's been termed by some reviewers but a man of action, looking for the ideal opportunity to revenge his father's murder. I think people will find our production to be a thrilling ghost story (with a couple good special effects to help with that) and surprisingly funny at times before the final fight scene occurs."

The show also features Robert Ierardi as Claudius, John Michalski as Polonius, Tamara Johnson as Gertrude, and Christine DeMuth as Ophelia. Fight Director David Doersch will stage the climactic rapier and dagger duel. The early 17th century setting features scenic designs by Gregg Hillmar, lighting by Steve Holliday, and costumes from Scotland's Jennifer Tiranti.

"The Comedy of Errors" plays July 6-17 and "Hamlet" follows from July 21-31, with performances at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10-$25, or $40 for both plays, available through the festival box office, by calling 221-2674 or online at http://www.wm.edu/vsf.
